Why Baptism?
At Covenant Park, we see baptism as the ultimate “outward expression of an inward change.” It’s essentially a public way of saying that something significant has shifted on the inside—that you’ve decided to follow Jesus and want to mark that moment. We practice baptism by immersion, which is just a fancy way of saying we go all the way under the water. It’s a powerful symbol of leaving an old way of life behind and rising up to start something new. There’s no magic in the water itself, and it isn’t a “requirement” to earn God’s love; it’s simply a celebration of a decision you’ve already made to accept His grace.
Because we believe baptism is such a personal milestone, we view it as an individual choice rather than a decision made for you by someone else. Unlike some traditions that practice infant baptism, we wait until a person is old enough to understand and articulate their own faith before they take the plunge. Whether you’ve been following Jesus for decades or you’re just starting to figure out what that looks like, the timing is entirely up to you. There’s no pressure to perform or have all the answers—just a community ready to cheer you on as you take this next step in your own time.
